Title
The Performative Dimension of Representation and Tragic Narration in Greek Theatre: Structure and Functions, Theories and Practices of Antiquity, and Analysis of Sophocles' Ajax
Abstract
This project claims that, to achieve a literary-performative translation of the text Ajax of Sophocles, it is necessary to consider, in a transdisciplinary manner, the pragmatic aspects of the linguistic code of drama with its referents and non-linguistic resources such as objects, bodies, movements, and gestures that are already present implicitly or explicitly in critical considerations of Antiquity. In order to carry out this work, we will analyse the pertinence of the theoretical notions of new materialisms, the theory of bodies (and of the actor), and the theories of emotions, in combination with the pragmatic analysis of Greek theatrical language and translation. The aim is to achieve a performative and critical translation of the text that explains the concurrence of the different semiotic components and communicative codes that make Sophocles' Ajax, and to present it for the consideration of directors and experts in theatre to think about a possible theatrical staging of the play based on the text product of the research.
