Title
Critique in the Teaching of Philosophy: A Study of Practices in the Educational System in Córdoba
Abstract
This work examines the Teaching of philosophy and aims to further develop the problematization of subject-specific didactics. It also aims to simultaneously intervene in two processes: to investigate established practices and to propose instituting processes. The teaching of philosophy has been the subject of research both in the educational and disciplinary fields for some time now. This movement involves specific forms of knowledge that come into play in the classroom that are not limited to the transmission of philosophic traditions. In this way, the teaching of philosophy is starting to be seen as involving more than procedural matters. Teaching practices bring together disciplinary knowledge, questions concerning the subjectivities involved and the specific contexts in which they take place. Among these educational inquiries, it is common to assign the Teaching a fundamental role. Current provincial curricular guidelines for the education system state the aim of promoting “Critique” among teachers. Previous studies identify this incentive among practicing philosophy teachers. “Critique” is a word with varied meanings and interpretations. Foucault defines this critical tradition as “a certain way of thinking, speaking, and acting”, an “attitude”, a relative of virtue, a resistance to being governed in a particular way, the art of voluntary insubordination, of reflexive indocility. Vega Cantor contends that critique encompasses a wide range of discourses against all forms of subjection: capitalist exploitation, social rationalization, technification, commodification of the commons, environmental degradation, patriarchy and colonialism. Our research questions ¿what connections are established between the enunciation of philosophical criticality and teaching practice in classrooms within the Córdoba school system?; ¿what enunciations do teachers do regarding the criticality of philosophy?; ¿are these enunciations reflected in teaching proposals; are they translated into teaching practices?; ¿is criticality present in teaching practices related to modern (Kantian) assumptions or to performative/constructive postmodern practices (Foucault/Butler)?. The methodology implemented is an exploratory study based on in-depth interviews to practicing teachers selected through a purposive sample.
