La vida como gesto estético y crítico
PICIFFyH

Title
Life as an Aesthetic and Critical Gesture
Abstract
Continuing from the previous project, which addressed autobiographical discourse in relation to certain categories drawn from the thought of Walter Benjamin that challenge traditional ways of conceiving the autobiographical, the current proposal seeks to further pursue the study of the “autobiographical space” from renewed theoretical perspectives. If we confine ourselves solely to its function in relation to what is external to the text, setting aside the form or the device that the autobiographical assumes, it will continue to constitute a merely subsidiary genre, since fictional literature will of course always surpass it. This discourse will be examined from diverse theoretical perspectives, with the aim of recognizing it as an artistic object capable of interrupting other dominant discourses that challenge it, such as that of the truthfulness or validity of the story told about an extralinguistic self that always seeks to dominate the scene. In this context, the possible modes of existence configured through the writings and readings of this “autobiographical space” will be critically analyzed, determining the tensions that may arise between autonomy and sovereignty in texts as artistic objects, by considering certain contemporary works that dismantle the traditional genre. In this sense, and in others that will open up from the corpus, what is at stake is the sovereignty of autobiographical discourse as an aesthetic and critical gesture.
