Fenomenología de la enfermedad
PICIFFyH

Title
Phenomenology of Illness
Abstract
(Line 2: individual project) The project is situated at the intersection of research lines on Phenomenology of pain, Phenomenology of illness, and phenomenological Bioethics; aimed at deepening the philosophical understanding of illnesses in the health field. Building upon the contributions of Havi Carel, Fredrik Svenaeus, Susan K. Toombs and Drew Leder, the aim of this project is to develop theoretical and methodological foundations of phenomenological bioethics capable of integrating the patient’s lived experience into the analysis and ethical deliberation processes. In this regard, the project examines the proposed distinction between philosophical phenomenology and applied phenomenology by Dan Zahavi, in order to analyze the relevance of the phenomenological approach in clinical and bioethical research. The main aim is to consolidate a methodology that allows for the study of the disease with ethical reflection about suffering, vulnerability and care, understood as constitutive dimensions of the embodied existence. Building on this perspective, the project aims to strengthen the dialogue between philosophy, medicine, and bioethics, offering conceptual tools for a deeper understanding of both the disease and ethical decision making in the health care context.
